Meditation did not come easy for me.

In fact, I would call my experience of learning to meditate and let go a “war in my head.”

I started my meditation practice as a part of a 40-day yoga program at a local studio that I had recently started attending. (You can read more about that story here).

Over the past 2.5 years, my practice has moved from angst to admiration. One that is full of love and kindness towards me.

I am very passionate to share my love for meditation… in fact I am certified through Gabriel Bernstein to teach her May Cause Miracles program, which is a 40-day deep dive into meditation and self-love.

To help you get started with your journey into meditation, I have compiled my favorite meditation resources. Each one of these the tried and true tools I have used on my very own journey. I recommend that you take what you want from my resources; explore and experience them on your own and decide what works best for you.

Where I began…

My first introduction to meditation was through Baron Baptiste and the 40-Days to Personal Revolution program. 40-Days to Personal Revolution is a program that combines a physical (asana) yoga practice, nutrition, and meditation. I participated in this program multiple times at my local yoga studio, Power Yoga Buffalo, however, you can complete it on your own as well.

In addition to the book, you can find Baron’s recorded meditations on Spotify.

Where I went next…

Soon after completing the 40-Days to Personal Revolution program, I was introduced to Rick Hanson’s Foundations of Well-Being. The Foundations of Well-Being is a year-long program that introduces you to meditation and mindfulness. It is amazing.

I have already read Rick’s books Buddha’s Brain, Hardwiring Happiness, and Just One Thing.

I enjoy Rick’s scientific approach to what he presents. He interviews many experts and even has periodic live Q&A calls. Once you enroll in his course, you have lifetime access.

Through Rick, I discovered Tara Brach (she was interviewed during his program). It was through Tara’s guided audio meditations that I began to be able to sit and let go.

My Spiritual Shift…

In the summer of 2017, I completed Gabriel Bernstein’s, Spirit Junkie Masterclass. Gabby is a Kundalini yoga teacher and spiritual teacher of A Course in Miracles teacher for the new generation. Gabby promotes a higher power “of your own understanding” that resonated with me. Through Gabby’s program, I learned to define my spiritual guidance system and became open to even more possibility in my meditations. Following Spirit Junkie Masterclass, I completed the 40-Day May Cause Miracles program and then Spirit Junkie Masterclass 2, where I become certified to teach May Cause Miracles.

Some of my favorite Gabby talks are:

Where I am now…

My meditation practice has shifted significantly over the past few years. I went from having one tool (sitting quietly) to many that I know rotate in and out as I need. My practice varies each day; by my intuition and what I am feeling. This includes sitting quietly, listening to a guided meditation, focusing on a mantra/phrase, journaling, visioning, walking, meditating with mala beads, and even kundalini chant. There is not “defined” or “required” practice.
